Home Ownership Mattered at the CMA Awards

By Wendy Cole, Senior Editor, REALTOR® Magazine

It was a fabulous night for country music sensation Miranda Lambert who took home four wins Wednesday at the Country Music Association Awards. The importance of  “home” was similarly feted last night as Lambert’s  moving performance in “The House That Built Me”  helped the tune earn Song of the Year and Video of the Year honors. The song, which attests to the powerfully enduring influence  of one’s childhood home, was co-written by Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin. We were lucky enough to snag an interview with Douglas just prior to awards night.

Look for Douglas’ reflections on the song, and information about his early career in commercial real estate sales, in the February 2011 issue REALTOR® Magazine.

  1. One of my favorite methods to decompress from the pressures of the day is to book a trip down memory lane to the carefree days while growing up. Keeping the yard mowed, hoeing the garden, slopping the hogs, listening to the rain drops on the tin roof. All these taught me how to be a better citizen and property holder as an adult.

The bailed out Bankers, having created the crisis and now made whole by our taxes/debt, have swung the pendulum such that a buyer qualified as to debts and income, these days must merely describe to their children that once idyillic scene, the family home.

  2. Great song! I live in Nashville and this song is going to be sung at our association’s December membership meeting 🙂
