Have you heard the buzz about Google’s new social network that’s being rolled out via invitation? Wired Magazine wrote a great piece about its development and as of this week, invites are starting to spread across the Web.

Many are worried that this will become yet another walled garden to tend, but in the end, if you want to use social networking platforms to market your business, you will want to get familiar with this new platform as soon as possible.

Google-plus

If you have an invite, great! Go check it out. But if you’re still waiting, there’s a few things you can do to hit the ground running once the invite shows up:

  • Update your Google Profile. This profile deeply integrates with Google +; populating your “about” page in a similar fashion to Facebook’s “info” page in your profile. The first activity posted for many new beta testers is that they have updated their profile. Why wait for the invite?
  • Check out the demo. You can familiarize yourself with many of the features via Google’s demo. Pay special attention to the Circles features as they could end up being the key advantage to this network.
  • Download the Android app. You won’t be able to use it yet, but at least it will be ready when you do. An iOS app for the iPhone is in the works as well.

The jury is still out on the how successful this network will be. But, my initial impression is that it’s simple, open, and well executed. Get ready.

    Nice write up Todd!

I received my invite yesterday and I must say that so far Google + seems pretty cool. I really enjoy the “circles” that you can separate your friends into. I am going to try and use the “hangouts” feature this weekend with some buddies.

  2. chaitanya says:

I am eagerly waiting for my invite and I must say it looks way cooler than other websites.

  3. Well said Todd. Many of my friends are still on the outside looking in. I hope they open it up soon because I really think it will work even better with a few hundred million more people. :)

  4. Drew Meyers says:

    Derek-
few hundred million? nonsense…let’s shoot for a billion to make it fun

  5. Laura Monroe says:

Great first steps to Google +. I just installed the Android app a little bit ago and really like the ability to see different “streams” based on my circles..a bit more streamlined than the Facebook app.

  6. Laura,

The android app is really incredible. Very simple and yet very effective. It might be the best social networking app I’ve yet to try.

  7. No invite, but have been watching the buzz around it. I’ll be curious to see it, but so far I’m not “dying to get in.” We’ll see. As for the app, it must be better executed than the Facebook app, which in my humble opinion is absolute rubbish.

  8. Tony Lazzari says:

    Got the invite…over capacity….drumming fingers….patiently waiting….

  12. Mary Wilcox says:

I mistook my invite as one of those idiots rip-off artists companies that claim to be selling the ultimate space (not) on Google.
Sooooo….I guess I’m going to have to wait.

  13. fred says:

I would love to have an invite as well. If you have one, please share it.
You can send it to fred@conejoreagent.com.

    Thank you.

i would love an invite too if someone would invite me.. i found the instructions for invites and from what i understand each person is allowed to invite 350 people. my email is MarcyTxRealtor@gmail.com

Post a Stream update (the same as posting to your Wall on Facebook), and share that post with you by entering your email address (which you should have already given them, if they don’t know it already). You should receive a notification email soon after with a link at the bottom that reads “Learn more about Google+”. Click that, and sign up! It’s that easy.

    Thanks in advance!!! Marcy
